Our Privacy Promise to You

Thank you for supporting Vallarta Garden Club. When you give, join or sign up, you trust us with your information. This page explains what we collect, why we need it, and how we keep it safe.

1. Who we are

Vallarta Garden Club is a nonprofit group in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico, registered as a nonprofit civil association. We are responsible for the information you share with us on this website, and we take that trust seriously.

To make online giving simple and secure, we use a fundraising platform called ChangeWorks. ChangeWorks uses your information only to help us run our giving, and never for anything else. If you ever have a question about your information, we are happy to help. Just write to us at [email protected].

2. What we collect

We only ask for what we need:

  • Your name and contact details: email, phone and mailing address.
  • Your gift: how much you give, when, and how often. This also includes any sponsorship you choose and the name you want on a plaque or dedication.
  • Your card or bank details: you type these straight into Stripe, our trusted payment company. We never see or keep your full card number.
  • Your bank link (only if you turn on round-up giving): Plaid, a secure banking company, connects your bank. We never get your bank password.
  • Volunteer and event details: when you can help, what you enjoy, and which events you sign up for.
  • Basic website details: for example, which pages you visit. Small files called cookies help our site work.

3. How we use it

We need your information to:

  • Process your gift, membership or event ticket
  • Send your receipt
  • Keep honest money and tax records
  • Invite you to member events and Club votes
  • Answer your questions

With your OK, we may also:

  • Send you our newsletter, event news and requests for support
  • Thank you by name in public, like on a bench plaque or donor list

You can say no to these extras at any time, and your gift stays the same. Just click "unsubscribe" in any email, or write to [email protected].

4. Who we share it with

We will never sell, rent or trade your information. Period.

We only share it with a few trusted platform processors. They may only use it to help us:

Processor What they do Where they keep it
ChangeWorks Runs our online giving and donor records United States
Stripe Handles card payments United States and other countries
Plaid (round-up giving only) Safely connects your bank United States
GoHighLevel Our CRM that sends our emails and newsletters United States
Hostinger Hosts our website United States

We may also share information if the law says we must, for example with tax officials.

Because these helpers are based outside Mexico, your information may be stored in the United States.

5. How we keep it safe

  • Locked pages: every page on our site use encryption. This scrambles your information so no one else can read it.
  • Safe payments: Stripe handles all card payments. Stripe meets the highest safety standard for card payments.
  • Limited access: only Club leaders who need your information can see it, and each one has their own login.
  • Access removed: when a leader steps down, we remove their access.

No system is perfect. If something ever goes wrong with your information, we will tell you and the right officials, as the law requires.

6. How long we keep it

  • Gift and money records: 10 years, because tax law requires it.
  • Newsletter list: until you unsubscribe. If you have not been active with us for 2 years, we take you off the list.

After that, we delete your information or remove anything that could identify you.

7. Your rights

Your information belongs to you, and you are always in control of it. At any time, you can ask us to:

  • See it: show you what we have about you
  • Fix it: correct anything that is wrong
  • Delete it: except records the law says we must keep
  • Stop a use: stop using it for a certain purpose
  • Change your mind: take back your OK for newsletters or public thank-yous

To make a request, simply email [email protected] with your name and what you would like us to do, and someone from our team will get back to you within 1 to 3 business days. You can also update your contact details yourself, any time, in your donor account.

In Mexico, these are known as your ARCO rights. If you ever feel we did not handle your request fairly, you can contact Mexico's privacy office, the Secretaría Anticorrupción y Buen Gobierno.

8. Cookies

Cookies are tiny files that help a website remember things and work smoothly. We only use the cookies our website and donation form need to run properly, so your visit stays simple and secure.

9. If this page changes

If we change how we use your information, we will update this page and the date at the top. If we ever want to use it in a new way, we will ask you first.

10. Contact us

We are always happy to help.
